We focus on creating partnerships that contribute to sustainable economic and social development and are continually exploring new models of collaboration with our Indigenous and community partners
Growing up on the Western Coast of British Columbia, Shawn learned the industry of commercial fishing from a young age with his father. In 2004, Shawn and his wife moved to Prince Rupert, BC to start a family and operate a new venture with his father named “Ocean Star Charters”. As a father-son operated business, Ocean Star Charters proved to be very successful in the sports fishing charter industry from 2001 to 2023. In 2007, Shawn also founded a construction company, “Gutter Brothers”, which achieved Aboriginal Business of the Year in 2010. Shawn and his family moved back to the lower mainland in 2011, where they now reside on Tsawwassen First Nation Land. Gutter Brothers remains a thriving business and services many homes throughout the lower mainland. Shawn is an accomplished businessman and entrepreneur. Seeing an opportunity in the local construction market Shawn started Yáahl Construction with his childhood friend Mark Lavallee and Desmond Vernon. Combining Shawn’s business acumen and local community involvement with Mark and Desmond’s technical construction experience through Tom Wood Contracting, makes Yáahl Construction the ultimate indigenous partner.
